Great Places to Visit When Staying at the Longlands Inn

Here at The Longlands Inn, there are so many great places to visit.  With stunning scenery, great hiking and walking routes, areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and breathe-taking coastlines. Not to mention, being a stone’s throw away from The National Lake District, the Trough of Bowland and the Yorkshire Dales we really do have it all. Whether you want to sail in the sea, hike in the hills or walk the miles of undulating footpaths – the Longlands Inn can provide it all.

The Lake District

Just a short 30 min drive from The Longlands Inn and you arrive in The Lake District.  With jaw dropping scenery it’s a great place to explore.  Head into Windermere and take a ride on the Lake District Steamers, walk the hills in Coniston or head to the Market towns such as Kendal and Keswick and visit the traditional inns, shops and tearooms.

Lancaster Canal

Our holiday cottages are right next to Tewitfield Locks on the Lancaster Canal at the edge of a designated area of outstanding natural beauty. You can walk for miles along the banks of the canal or just sit and watch the boats maneuvering – you’ll soon recognise the experts!

The Forest of Bowland

Heading South from Lancaster, discover one of the original royal hunting forests and our second area of outstanding natural beauty. Newly opened access land means that it offers some of the most remote and rugged walking in the North West.

Ingleton Falls

A marked 4.5-mile trail of spectacular waterfalls through ancient woodland, which takes between 2.5 and 4 hours to complete depending on your agility. Nearby is White Scar Cave, a beautiful subterranean landscape with a huge ice-age cavern adorned with thousands of stalactites. And, when you visit, you’ll find yourself in the Yorkshire Dales National Park – acres of wild moorland and more mountains.
